Biography | Geneviève LAURENCEAU
Born in Strasbourg, Geneviève Laurenceau began playing the violin at the age of three. At an early age, this instrument, whose singing range is close to the human tessitura, became a natural extension of her artistic expression. From the age of nine, she performed as a soloist with the Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra of her hometown.
Trained by great masters such as Wolfgang Marschner, Zakhar Bron and Jean-Jacques Kantorow, she developed an artistic personality nourished by the great European violin traditions. After several international successes, she was awarded First Prize at the Novosibirsk International Competition, and in 2001 received the Grand Prix of the Académie Maurice Ravel in Saint-Jean-de-Luz.
The following year, she won the 5th "Le Violon de l'Adami" competition, recording a CD with pianist Jean-Frédéric Neuburger. Since then, she has been regularly invited to appear as soloist with leading French and international orchestras, under conductors such as Michel Plasson, Tugan Sokhiev, Thomas Søndergård and Christian Arming.
She performs in prestigious venues such as the Théâtre du Châtelet, Salle Gaveau, Halle aux Grains, Palais des Beaux-Arts and Palacio de la Ópera. From 2007 to 2017, she held the position of supersoloist first violin with the Orchestre national du Capitole de Toulouse.
In parallel with her solo career, Geneviève Laurenceau devotes herself passionately to chamber music. She regularly shares the stage with artists such as Anne Gastinel, Philippe Jaroussky, Philippe Bianconi and Bertrand Chamayou. Curious and deeply attached to the dialogue between artistic disciplines, she also multiplies original collaborations, notably with philosopher Raphaël Enthoven, physicist Étienne Klein and actor Didier Sandre.
Highly committed to contemporary creation, she works regularly with composers such as Karol Beffa, Bruno Mantovani and Philippe Hersant, who in 2012 dedicated to her the work Por che llorax, a duet for violin and cello premiered at the Obernai Music Festival with Victor Julien-Laferrière.
In 2011, the music magazine ResMusica named her "Artist of the Year". In 2015, her recording of Albéric Magnard's sonatas and trio, with Olivier Triendl and Maximilian Hornung, was awarded a "Diapason d'Or".
Equally committed to teaching, Geneviève Laurenceau has for many years been an active teacher. She directed the violin class at the Académie Philippe Jaroussky from 2017 to 2022, at La Seine Musicale. Since 2020, she has taught at IESM Aix-en-Provence and at CRR Grand Parc de Versailles.
She is also President and Artistic Director of the Obernai Chamber Music Festival, founded at her instigation in 2009.
