Harp

Harp

From age 7

The harp is one of civilization's oldest stringed musical instruments. It has crossed the ages and continents, and has evolved considerably over the centuries. Without even having seen it up close, children are familiar with this enchanting instrument.

Harp teaching at the Académie Rainier III
Learning to play the harp can begin as early as age 5 on a small instrument: the Celtic harp. The transition to the large harp is generally envisaged towards the end of the 1st cycle (after 3 or 4 years of practice). However, it is possible to remain in the Celtic harp curriculum for the duration of your studies. It is essential to have an instrument at home for regular practice. The Celtic harp costs between €1,000 and €2,500, but can also be rented (around €30 to €35 per month). There are also hire-purchase arrangements. The larger harp represents a greater financial investment, but second-hand harps and rental-sales are also available. The harp can be played as a soloist, or in various chamber music ensembles, as well as in the orchestra. The repertoire is highly varied, ranging from early music to classical, romantic, contemporary and traditional (Celtic) music. One-to-one lessons enable each student to progress individually. From the very first lessons, we play short pieces (nursery rhymes, songs) that are often well known to children. Collective practice with a harp ensemble is also part of instrumental training from the first year. It develops listening skills, rhythm, autonomy, work methods and group spirit, and boosts student motivation. With 2, 3..... or 20 harps, concerts are organized within the music academy, as well as at various venues in the Principality and France. Trips outside Monaco for competitions, masterclasses and festivals are regularly scheduled.

Percussion

Teacher : Benoît MAURIN
Percussion

From age 6

Percussion teaching at the Academy focuses mainly on contemporary and classical percussion: KEYBOARDS (vibraphone, marimba, xylophone, etc.) PEALS (snare drum, toms, timpani, djembe, etc.) Accessories (tambourine, triangle, castanets, cymbals, etc.).

The teaching in Mr. Benoit MAURIN's class is based on pleasure and high standards, with the ultimate aim of performing on stage in front of an audience whenever possible. It's important to feel these unique sensations: to be a soloist or a member of a chamber music ensemble, to learn to share with other musicians, to create emotions...
